"Christians" of Rome who first Worshiped the Sun

Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:3

Leo the Great speaks of Christians in Rome, who first worshiped the
rising Sun, doing homage to the pagan Apollo before repairing to the Basilica of St. Peter

As professed heathen, the sun had been their chief god.
As professed Christians they still worship it, but “Christianized” the custom by claiming that they were doing homage to “the Sun of Righteousness,” the Son of God.
Sunday is and always will be only “the venerable day of the sun,”...." E.J. Waggoner

So who Exactly was this FALSE god Apollo that so-called Christians in Rome Worshiped?
"Apollo is one of the most dazzling, and charismatic gods of the Olympian Pantheon; ...and had many, many lovers, both male and female.
---Apollo shone so brightly he overshadowed Helios the Sun God,
and eventually became known as a Sun God in his own right.
---One of Apollo's most important daily tasks was to harness his four-horse chariot, in order to move the Sun across the sky.

Apollo pursued and conquered many women, both mortal and divine, though many of his would-be female lovers ran from his advances or committed suicide rather than submit to him.

Apparently, Apollo was capable of absorbing the power of his lovers and goddesses, Queens, and Princesses certainly didn’t want to become a lesser being even for one as beautiful as Apollo.

He had better luck with male lovers and is the patron of young men, teaching them music, sports and divination.

Apollo where he killed Hera’s ally the Guardian Serpent and absorbed its power.  Apollo could then manifest as a snake. Apollo was a great healer, but he was also capable of unleashing epidemics at will.  During the Trojan War, Apollo attacked the Greeks with the plague.  He can heal anyone except those he has killed himself.
