3 D's of Nahum SERIES: Declared (chapter 1)

3 D's of Nahum SERIES:
Declared

Nineveh's Doom Declared--The Who
.... the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
vs.3

A. Because of God's Attributes (1:2-8)
1. God's wrath (1:2-3a)
The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: vs.3
God is a God of justice and when there is injustice, it makes Him angry.

2. God's power (1:3b-6)
The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence,.. vs.5
God's vengeance (justice) and omnipotence are stressed by the complete devastation that is coming.

3. God's goodness (1:7)
The LORD is good.. and he knoweth them that trust in him. vs.7
But his wrath and power are tempered by His goodness.

4. Conclusion (1:8)
But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies. vs.8
For Ninevah the result is destruction because the people of Nineveh are evil. Notice the reference to the overwhelming flood. That was fulfilled by the flooding of the Khoser River and the flooding in of the enemies.

B. Because of Ninevah's Sin (1:9-15)

Nineveh made war on God's people, and therefore, made war against God 1:9-11.
For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder....Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
