IN the NEWS - Week of Eerie Headlines Kicks off 2018

Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

From BCH....Temperatures Colder Than Mars Predicted for Parts of U.S.
"According to a report from CNN this week, parts of the northeastern United
States are predicted to become colder than the planet Mars, whose recent high temperature was negative 2 degrees Fahrenheit. Weather observer Taylor Regan, cited in the article, predicts that the temperature in parts of New Hampshire will drop below negative 30 early this weekend."

From Time......What Is Thundersnow? Winter Storm Grayson Causes Rare Weather Phenomenon
"If a description like “bomb cyclone” is not enough to freak you out about this week’s winter weather, Winter Storm Grayson has brought along another terrifying weather phenomenon: thundersnow.
Thundersnow, a snowstorm during which thunder and lightning occur, has been reported across southeastern New England Thursday."

From Weather Underground...Meanwhile, there’s Eleanor in Europe and Ava in Africa
"Europe has been dealing with its own blockbuster winter storm, dubbed Eleanor. Winds of up to 100 mph socked Great Britain on Tuesday night, including gusts of more than 70 mph in the London area. BBC reported that a huge wave on the northern coast of Spain killed two onlookers, while a falling tree killed a skier in the French Alps. At least 200,000
customers in northern France reportedly lost power. Falling trees injured at least four people in Great Britain, and the Guardian reported that power outages affected 23,000 residents of Northern Ireland, where one factory was partially unroofed.
Tropical Cyclone Ava was on track to produce what could be the planet’s first hurricane-strength landfall of 2018. As of 4 pm EST Wednesday, Ava was located about 300 miles north-northwest of the island of Reunion, heading south at about 12 mph with top winds of around 45 mph. Ava was fairly disorganized, but it included several clusters of strong showers and thunderstorms.
Ava will approach the east-central coast of Madagascar on Friday. Before then, Ava should get a chance to approach minimal hurricane strength."

From Quartz....Mount St. Helens, an active volcano, had four times as many earthquakes than usual last month
"Something wacky seems to be happening underneath Mount St. Helens.

Early today (Jan. 3), at least 17 earthquakes hit near the active volcano in Washington state, in rapid succession between 12:30am and 6:28am US Pacific time. The first and strongest registered a magnitude of 3.9 on the Richter scale, according to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network.
Last month, University of Washington seismologists logged more than 80 quakes, a huge increase over the average 17 per month".

From Daily Sun....California MEGA EARTHQUAKE as 4.4 tremor rattles most DANGEROUS fault
"The "terrifying" tremor has left millions across the state fearing an
imminent "Big One" earthquake measuring magnitude 7 or greater on the Richter Scale.
The US state has not been struck by a magnitude 7 or greater earthquake since a colossal rupture in the San Andreas Fault laid waste to San Francisco in 1906.
The massive magnitude 7.8 earthquake reduced buildings to rubble in less than a minute, killing around 7,500 people and destroying 80% of the city.
Experts believe there is a 70% chance a tremor on a similar scale will strike the Bay Area of San Francisco."

From PBS....Key moments from the protests rocking Iran
"Reports emerge that authorities in Iran have shut off the internet in some parts of the country. The “gradual grind of double-digit unemployment, double-digit inflation, no prospects of economic improvement, the remarkable cronyism, recent publication of budget figures that show millions of dollars have been given to religious endowments that have done virtually nothing to contribute, all of that I think created a tipping point,” said Abbas Milani..."
