As Qantas CEO and marriage equality advocate Alan Joyce said after Wednesday’s Yes victory: “If this was a general election, it would be the biggest landslide in Australian electoral history.”
The survey saw responses returned by almost 80 per cent of eligible Australian voters — an arguably comparable figure to the 90-95 per cent who regularly turn out for compulsory federal elections.
However, no election comes close to the thumping triumph for same-sex marriage.
