1 Timothy: Avoiding Shipwreck

1 Timothy: Avoiding Shipwreck

Holding faith, and a good conscience;
which some having put away concerning faith
have made shipwreck:
1 Timothy 1:19

Chapter 1
(Rooted in Sound Doctrine)

Summary of Commandments
Now the end of the commandment is
*charity out of a pure heart,
 *and of a good conscience,
*and of faith unfeigned:
vs.5
Stay the Course of Sound Doctrine
.... that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,
 Neither give heed to fables...
vs.3,4
Paul's Testimony
And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord,
who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful,
putting me into the ministry;
*Who was before a blasphemer,
*and a persecutor,
*and injurious:
but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
vs.12,13

Chapter 2
(In this GREAT CONTROVERSY)

Desire of God
Who will have all men to be saved,
and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
vs.4
Plan of Redemption:
1) Work in the Inner Court
For there is one God,
and one mediator between God and men,
the man Christ Jesus;
2) Sacrificial Lamb in the Outer court
Who gave himself a ransom for all,
to be testified in due time.
vs.5,6
Testimony to authenticity of Genesis account-How it all began
For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
And Adam was not deceived,
but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
vs.13,14

Chapter 3
(Church Leadership)

Pastors
A bishop then must be blameless,
the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober,
of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre;
but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
One that ruleth well his own house,
having his children in subjection with all gravity;
For if a man know not how to rule his own house,
how shall he take care of the church of God?
vs.2-5
Deacons
Likewise must the deacons be grave,
not doubletongued, not given to much wine,
not greedy of filthy lucre;
Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
vs.8,9
The Solemnity of the Church
 ....that thou mayest know
how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God,
which is the church of the living God,
the pillar and ground of the truth.
vs.15
GOD - part 1
God was manifest in the flesh,
justified in the Spirit,
seen of angels,
preached unto the Gentiles,
believed on in the world,
received up into glory.
vs.16

Chapter 4
(WARNING to the CHURCH)

WARNING
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly,
 that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith,
giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
Speaking lies in hypocrisy;
having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
vs.1,2
Exercise your FAITH
For bodily exercise profiteth little:
but godliness is profitable unto all things,
having promise of the life that now is,
 and of that which is to come.
vs.8
Be an Example
 ....but be thou an example of the believers,
in word, in conversation, in charity,
in spirit, in faith, in purity.
vs.12
Chapter 5
(Responsibility)

Father's Responsibility
*But if any provide not for his own,
and specially for those of his own house,
*he hath denied the faith,
and is worse than an infidel.
vs.8
Mother's Responsibility
 I will therefore that the
*younger women marry,
*bear children,
*guide the house,
*give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
vs.14
Responsibility in dealing with Church leaders
Against an elder receive not an accusation,
but before two or three witnesses.
vs.19

Chapter 6
(Be Content)

Be Content with what you have
But godliness with contentment is great gain.
And having *food and *raiment let us be therewith content.
vs.6,8
Paul Boils It Down
For we brought nothing into this world,
and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
vs.7
Perils of Wealth
But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare,
and into many foolish and hurtful lusts,
which drown men in destruction and perdition.
For the love of money is the root of all evil:
vs.9,10
GOD - part 2
Who only hath immortality,
dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto;
vs.16

SUMMARY
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation,
that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners;
of whom I am chief.
1 Timothy 1:15
