Pay CLOSE ATTENTION to the verse....
....but we know that,
when he shall appear,
we shall be like him;
for we shall see him as he is.

Why will we be like Him? Because we see Him as He is at His return.... His bride on earth REFLECTING His character back at Him....think about that....

And there appeared a great wonder in heaven;
a woman clothed with the sun,
and the moon under her feet,
and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
Revelation 12:1
His people, clothed with the sun (He is the Sun of Righteousness with healing in His wings), and the moon reflects the sunlight......think about it in the context of the above verse from 1 John.
