GOSPEL Gem: Coming of Elijah

Synergy of Matthew 17:10-13/Mark 11:9-13
And his disciples asked him, saying,
Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?
And he answered and told them,
Elias verily cometh first, a
nd restoreth all things;
and how it is written of the Son of man,
that he must suffer many things,
and be set at nought.
But I say unto you,
That Elias is come already,
and they knew him not,
but have done unto him whatsoever they listed.
Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them as it is written of him.
Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

Malachi Adds - Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, Malachi 4:5,6
"It was believed also that before the Messiah's advent, Elijah would personally appear. John came in the spirit and power of Elijah, to do such a work as Elijah did. If the Jews had received him, it would have been accomplished for them. But they did not receive his message."
