Daniel & the Ishtar Gate


In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah
came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem,
and besieged it.
And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand,
with part of the vessels of the house of God:
which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god;

"The Ishtar Gate was constructed by the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar II circa 575 B.C. It was the eighth gate of the city of Babylon (in present day Iraq) and was the main entrance into the city. The Ishtar Gate was part of Nebuchadnezzar's plan to beautify his empire's capital and during the first half of the 6th century B.C., he also restored the temple of Marduk and built the renowned wonder: the Hanging Gardens as part of this plan. This is probably what the Babylonian
soldiers of the time of Daniel actually looked like
It is very likely that Daniel & the Hebrew captives, were brought into Babylon through the Ishtar Gate. So very likely this is something Daniel saw with his own eyes that you too can see.
