Rehoboam (Pandering to the Young)

Rehoboam, upon becoming king, pandered to the young among him and ignored the counsel of the seasoned elders. As a result, Israel was torn in 2. Is the same thing happening today? Is this quest to pander to the youth (who we are told are leaving the churches in droves) resulting in a divided church? Progressive vs. traditional in worship styles & doctrines? We see & hear this from creation/evolution to homosexuality/women ordination debates. If truth has to be watered down, or rejected, as a result of "listening" to someone--then that someone would be wrong.
So are the youth never to be listened to?-- NO...they can  have good ideas too. But if those ideas go against, or weaken Biblical doctrine, well then.....
And spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying,
My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke:
my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
1 Kings 12:14

But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.
2 Chronicles 10:8
