What about multiple wives in the Bible?

 Some try & use multiple wives in the Bible by some (such as David, Solomon, etc.) as an excuse to deviate today from the clear teaching of God's Word.
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother,
and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Genesis 2:24
And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother,
 and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
Matthew 19:5

First, The Bible makes it clear in Genesis that in the beginning God designed marriage to be between one man & one woman.

Second, Christ affirmed this arrangement in the New Testament.

Third, those who had more than one wife, a concubine, etc., always had trouble as a result from it. There was a lesson God was teaching us in that-for as Paul points out about the past Biblical characters-that all these things happened for EXAMPLES for us to learn from. Obviously the lessons are not always what we should follow, but sometimes what we should avoid.

Fourth, as for the kings of Israel having multiple wives, just remember God did not want them to have a king-but they insisted. And when He allowed them-He also warned them bad things would happen as a result. (A big example would be the sin as a result of Solomon & his multiple wives).

Fifth, why do people constantly try to find a way to rebel against the clear teaching of the Word of God?

Sixth, and biggest point, just because the Bible describes the events in the lives of sinful humans, doesn't mean that the Bible prescribes to those events.

And the times of this ignorance God winked at;
 but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Acts 17:30

Because they rebelled against the words of God,
and contemned the counsel of the most High:
Pslam 107:11
