The Greek form of the Hebrew name Miriam (Moses sister) is Mary (Jesus's mother).
Like Miriam, who was to watch over her brother (who would one day be their deliverer from "Egypt") so too was Mary to watch over her Son who would one day be their deliverer from our spiritual "Egypt".
