Biomimetics is the field of studying the creatures around us and learning from them how to design things, such as from the exoskeleton of a scorpion. (A Chinese university was interested as to why a sandstorm that can strip paint is survived without any damage by scorpions. They found out that it has to do with the dome shaped granules of their design pattern of the exoskeleton. And from that they can attempt to pattern man made things to resist wind erosion.)
