"The world is given up to appetite. If the popular churches of the day wish to raise money for any purpose, they do it through the indulgence of the apetite. A strawberry festival, an ice cream entertainment,...or something of the kind is the means by which the liberalities of the people are drawn out.
But our Lord was carried into the wilderness in order to be prepared to cure the maladies of our fallen natures. He fasted forty days."
