Beware the Contemplative Prayer Movement

The Contemplative Prayer Movement is creeping into Christianity today. It is nothing more than New Age meditation techniques sneaking into the church. This has happened from time to time in church history. Take for instance Teresa of Avila (1515-1582) a Catholic nun.

*Her motto became "Either let me suffer or let me die". This of course isn't the Christian attitude. That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. Ephesians 6:3

*Her meditations went through 4 stages-1) Mental Prayer 2) Prayer of Quiet 3) Devotion of Union (an ecstatic state) 4) Devotion of Ecstasy/Rapture which the person awakes from a trance and is covered in tears. Also she is said to have been able to levitate during Mass while in this state. This too is not from God. As Paul would say...O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, Galatians 3:1 The answer: Beth Moore, Dallas Willard, Richard Foster, Calvin Miller, Priscilla Shirer as well as the emergent church movement and others who preach this garbage-that is who is bewitching you.
