The name OBADIAH means "Servant of Yahweh". In Arabic its Abdullah. The book of
Obadiah deals with Edom. It tells they will be punished for not coming to the
aid of their neighbor and relatives, Israel, when they were invaded by their
enemies. (The Jews were descended from Jacob and the Edomites from his brother
Esau). For thy violence against thy brother
Jacob shame shall cover
thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever. Obadiah 1:10
It accuses Edom of the sin of pride. The
pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the
rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring
me down to the
ground? Obadiah 1:3
In
