The Great Bottleneck (Global Flood)
A bottleneck, genetically speaking, occurs in a population when it is almost wiped out, then re-expands in population size. (This is done by going back through the Mt DNA looking at the amount of diversity for instance.) Most geneticists agree that the human race went through a severe bottleneck at one point in history, nearly wiping out the human race. They disagree on how and when. For example, the Toba Catastrophe Theory says it happened when a supervolcanic eruption happened at Mount Toba in Indonesia. But others now claim thats not the case. Some claim cold dry, climates created a bottleneck for the human race originating in Africa. And other bottleneck theories abound. Could it be that the great bottleneck of the human race, found in our DNA, occurred when -- God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. Genesis 6:13,17 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered. And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark. Genesis 7:19,21,23 Now that would classify as a genetic bottleneck!! But why did this happen? The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. Genesis 6:11,12 This is compared by Christ to the Last days near the end of time, But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Matthew 24:37 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Luke 17:27 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Matthew 24:39 Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. Ecclesiastes 8:11 But while Noah and his sons spent years building this massive ark, people had time to repent and be saved. There was a time for their probation by the merciful God. But in the end, only a few were saved. ....when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 1 Peter 3:20 After the flood God gave the rainbow I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. Genesis 9:13-15 The second destruction of earth won't be with water, instead it will be by - But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 2 Peter 3:10 Evolutionists wonder why we show very little genetic diverstiy as humans, yet give superficial image of diversity, such as ethnicity and biological race. (Closer to a bottleneck, the smaller the genetic diversity). Well a global flood a few thousand years ago could be the answer. Also, how did Noah get all the animals on the ark is a common question. Based on what we know today in genetics, you only need one pair of each kind. For example, all dogs today (collies, poodles, german shepherds, etc., descend from one pair of dogs. You don't need each breed). The diversity in the gene pool is utilized by natural selection. (different shapes, sizes and colors produced, but still the same kind. In other words, a dog is still a dog, whether a poodle or doberman pincher.) One point of interest, Peter tells us that baptism is also symbolic of God cleansing the earth in a baptism of water. ...in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us... 1 Peter 3:20,21 Baptism, not just a symbolic gesture or ceremony acknowledging our accptance of Christ cleansing us from our sins, but also a link to our past history as humans. To the Global Flood of our ancestors, when God cleansed the world with water. He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it. And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: Isaiah 25:8,9
