Secular psychology has several "models" for the "evolution" of religion:
1) Opium for the masses model - From the discredited Karl Marx. The belief that religion is made by the powerful to control the ignorant masses.
2) Theory of religion model - Religion are cults that slowly become mainstream over time. This model has 4 sub-models: a) Psychopathological - Founded during stress, kind of like a self therapy group thing. b) Entrepreneurial - Developed as a product to sell to the masses for profit of some kind. c) Social - Bonding of a group with little contact with others. d) Normal Revelations - Ascribing natural phenomena to the supernatural.
3) Dogma selection model - Allows for encoding survival tips ssuch as staying away from people with germs because you think they are sick because of a demon.
4) Study of history model - When a civilization decays, a spiritual leader emerges to start a revival.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, Romans 1:22,23
